Undercurrents Exhibition and Arts Award Ceremony 30.10.13

It's been ten days since the exhibition of the Undercurrents work and as I look through the photos again I'm reminded of what a lovely afternoon it was and how totally fabulous the group of girls we worked with are.
I'm so impressed by the quality of the work they produced and how well they all engaged with Burnley's rivers and river side wildlife. Mostly it's been a joy to watch them all work together and create new friendships in such a short space of time.

Mhairi, Molly & Jessica also did a brilliant job of leading the magnetic poetry activity during the event and had everyone busily creating magnets.

Stage two will begin in January so watch this space for more wonderful work and magical moments!

Gawthorpe Hall by Shona

Gawthope Hall

I loved going to Gawthope Hall, because it brought out a lot of history throughout the building!
I enjoyed going through the different rooms, because every room gave me a different feeling and emotion. For example; going into the dining room, made me feel scared and ghost like. I liked the mysteriousness of the building, and how everything in it had old sentimental value. However, i didn't like going into some of the rooms, because it made me feel quite anxious and scared (like something was going to jump out at me).
I would recommend people who love history, to visit Gawthope Hall and get the experience that I did!

Saturday session 6 - Angie Lewin inspired collages

Today was the last session of the year :( but, we had a fantastically creative time making collages with Helen who brought in a selection of Angie Lewin's work for the group to look at. The girls drew simple line drawings of plants brought in by Helen and copied them onto tracing paper.
Using an array of coloured and patterned paper, the girls made gorgeous  collages, embellished with illustration that look absolutely gorgeous. This was such an amazing process to watch and had lots of different stages which enabled the girls to learn a variety of skills.
Helen and I will be back at the Crib on Wednesday morning to hang and display all the group's wonderful art work in time for the exhibition at 3pm.

Saturday session 5 - Posters

We had a great activity packed busy session today. Talya led a poster design activity and the girls worked in two separate groups to each create a huge Undercurrents poster covered in their fantastic nature inspired characters and hand-drawn lettering. Talya showed us various mark marking techniques using ink and oil pastels and it was brilliant experimenting and making a creative mess!

We also printed out lots of images for the Arts Award portfolios and the group spent some time making their portfolios look amazing.

It's amazing how much work we've produced over the last few weeks. We have one more session left with helen next week before we start puzzling out how to display all the group's work ready for the exhibition on the 30th.
Exciting stuff.

I also took some pictures of the girls and printed them on acetate so we could layer them over the top of some of their drawings but you'll have to wait for the exhibition to see these...
